POS: The Visual Radio

Pos Academy

With POS ACADEMY, we give young people (18+) from Brussels and Flemish Brabant a chance to learn the journalistic profession, regardless of their previous education. The training consists of several theoretical modules and practical application.

The training must be of such a level that with the certificate obtained, one can immediately work in different companies of the media sector, and at least at POS MEDIA itself.

  1. Entry test

POS ACADEMY is intended to be accessible so that anyone interested in the profession will see it as an opportunity to start this training. However, the registration will be accompanied by a kind of entrance test - easily accessible - in order to assess the motivation of the potential student. If the potential student passes the entrance test, he/she can start the 3-month training.

  1. Online platform with modules (1 month)

After passing the entrance test, the student has access to the platform (website) of online modules on different subjects, such as

  • Journalism / Investigative journalism / Video journalism
  • Media training
  • Basic microphone and audio techniques
  • Basic camera and video techniques
  • Publishing software
  • Radio
  • Social media

(these topics are explained below)

A subject may consist of several modules. Each module deals with a part of the subject. One can only move on to the next module once a module has been completed. This allows the student to follow the course at his or her own pace, although within a set time frame. It also allows the student's progress to be closely monitored.

The online modules consist of videos or PowerPoint presentations on the subject to be learned. The student is regularly tested on his or her knowledge and can only move on to the next module when he or she has achieved the minimum score required.

  1. Internship and practical experience (1 month)

After successfully completing the theory on the online platform, the practical part of the course begins. The student will be provided with equipment such as an iPhone and a camera with the necessary peripherals, as well as a laptop with the necessary software.

The practical training consists of:

  1. Practical training on hardware (iPhone, camera, wireless microphone, laptop, software, ...)
  2. Accompanying a video journalist
  3. Capture the 'news' and upload it to social media
  4. Filming a report
  5. Finishing (editing, voice-over) of the video report

(these topics are explained below)
